Merging partitions, with Vista installed on the SECOND partition!
I finally decided, to get another hard drive, and purchase Vista Ultimate retail full version, and install the 64 bit version to run in a dual boot environment , with my XP Pro 32 bit, leaving the XP Pro as my main primary OS for a while. I got it installed yesteray afternoon, and have been playing around with it.

Still boots directly into XP, then I go into bios boot menu, choose the third sata drive my Vista is on, then it boots directly into Vista. Thanks for the help, probaby something small I am missing - I installed VistaBootPro and run it from my Vista install, should I install it and run it from the XP install

Installed Vista dual boot, think I screwed up!
A few days ago I installed Vista. All went fine am pleased with the new system. I do have a problem though in that Vista does not recognize the drive and assign a letter to the drive. This drive is the data drive from my old XP install (I finally gave up on XP due to all of the problems it generated for me.

However the Acer comes with a Vista image on the HD. Acer (and other manufacturers) don't deliver installation disks, unless bought. So, if you want/need these, you have payed twice for the same MicroSoft stuff. What a sad situation. The issue is that starting the new PC will force to install Vista.

I had to edit the program to stop autoscan from looking for drive E and direct it to my bootable logical drive C where I installed Vista Scan. Didn't this happen to you? I've never seen this problem.

Uh, no, they should give you an installation disk nyway Vista now has a "resize partition" function which you can use to reduce the size of the vista paration and then you can use Linux to put it into the now emptied space on the hard drive. The issue is that starting the new PC will force to install Vista.
